HVAC Design & Installation in Malibu.

A Malibu home is often designed around the view: walls of glass toward the ocean, open living spaces and terraces that blur inside and out. It also sits in one of the most demanding climates on the coast, with salt air, marine humidity, intense afternoon sun on west-facing glass and canyon heat in the fall. We engineer heating and cooling for all of it, so the system is as quiet and lasting as the architecture.

Engineering for Glass and Ocean Light

Every design starts with a room-by-room Manual J load calculation, Manual S equipment selection and Manual D duct design. Ocean-facing glass can drive a large afternoon load in a single room while the rest of the house stays cool, so zoning and air delivery are planned around how the sun moves across each elevation.

Accurate sizing also matters for humidity. Equipment that is right-sized and variable-speed runs long enough to dry the air, which keeps coastal homes from feeling clammy.

Built for Salt Air

On beachfront and bluff-top homes, we specify equipment with corrosion-resistant coils and coatings, stainless or coated hardware and sealed electrical connections. Outdoor units are placed to limit direct salt spray while keeping airflow and service access, and we consider enclosed or interior equipment locations where the design allows.

Canyon homes in areas such as Latigo Canyon and Serra Retreat face more heat and less salt, and we design for that difference rather than applying a single approach to the whole city.

Quiet, Concealed and Brand-Independent

Air is delivered through linear diffusers integrated with ceilings, concealed returns and carefully sized sheet-metal ducts, so rooms stay calm and uncluttered. We design and install across all major brands, including Daikin, Mitsubishi, Lennox, Trane and Carrier, choosing ducted variable-speed equipment, heat pumps, ductless systems or a variable refrigerant system according to the home.

Every installation is commissioned with measured airflow, verified refrigerant charge and documentation for future care.

Questions

HVAC Design & Installation Questions in Malibu

Which equipment holds up best near the ocean?

Equipment with factory corrosion protection on the coils, combined with careful placement and regular maintenance. We specify coastal-grade options from several major brands and plan for easy access to clean them.

Can the system handle the afternoon sun on our ocean-facing rooms?

Yes, when it is designed for it. We calculate loads room by room and zone ocean-facing spaces separately, so they stay comfortable without overcooling the rest of the house.

Do you work on homes being rebuilt?

Yes. We design systems for new construction and rebuilds throughout Malibu, coordinating with architects and builders from early design.

Is a variable refrigerant system a good fit for Malibu?

Sometimes. It works well in homes with many independently used rooms. We compare it with ducted alternatives and recommend the best fit for the architecture and exposure.
