Indoor Air Quality in Agoura Hills.

Agoura Hills lives close to wild land. That proximity is the reason so many families choose it, and it is also why air quality deserves real planning here. Smoke from fires in the Santa Monica Mountains or farther afield, spring pollen from grassland and oak, and dust on windy days all find their way indoors unless the home has a deliberate system to manage them.

Closing the Door on Poor Outdoor Air

We design fresh-air ventilation, typically through an energy recovery ventilator, so the home receives filtered outdoor air every day. On poor outdoor air days, such as wildfire smoke, the fresh-air intake can be shut off or set to recirculate, so the system turns to cleaning the air already inside. Automatic smoke response is something we design only for homes with compatible integrated controls, and we discuss it during the walkthrough.

This matters in Agoura Hills because smoke events here can arrive quickly and last for days. Families in Old Agoura and along the canyon edges have seen it firsthand. A system you can switch to recirculate from the wall control keeps the house clean while smoke lasts.

Filtration, Carbon and UV

Fine filtration in the MERV 15 to 16 range removes the small particles in smoke and the pollen that rides on spring winds. We size filter cabinets so the upgrade does not strain the equipment or add noise.

Activated carbon reduces smoke odor and many gases, and ultraviolet light keeps the coil and drain pan clean. After a smoke event, a full filter change and system check bring the home back to its baseline, something we schedule automatically for White Glove members.

Fresh Air for Every Bedroom, and Optional Monitoring

In Morrison Ranch and Hillrise homes, bedrooms with doors closed at night often need more fresh air than they are getting. We size and balance the ventilation so each room receives its share. If you want to see what's in your air, we can add indoor air quality monitoring that tracks fine particles, VOCs, and humidity, and ties into your filtration and fresh-air system.

Each system is designed around the home's existing equipment and fitted discreetly into the architecture.

Questions

Indoor Air Quality Questions in Agoura Hills

When is the fresh-air intake closed?

On poor outdoor air days, such as wildfire smoke, the fresh-air intake can be shut off or set to recirculate, and reopened once the air clears. Automatic smoke response is something we design only for homes with compatible integrated controls, and we discuss it during the walkthrough.

Will carbon filtration remove smoke smell?

Activated carbon reduces many of the gases and odors associated with smoke. Combined with a sealed intake and fine filtration, it keeps indoor air noticeably cleaner during and after an event.

Is indoor air quality monitoring included?

It is optional, never required. Fresh air and filtration work fully on their own. If you would like monitoring, we place compact units discreetly and coordinate with your designer where needed.

Will better filtration make the system louder?

Not when it is designed properly. We size the filter cabinet and returns so air moves slowly through a large filter surface, which preserves airflow and keeps the system as quiet as it was before, or quieter.
